FAMILY EVER AFTER - Now streaming on CBC Gem

There are a lot of stories in the media about adoption, the foster care system, kids in short or long term care, birth parents who struggle - and the VAST majority of the stories we read and hear about are negative.

We're told that kids are in foster care because the parents are drug addicts, that the caseworkers don't care, that the foster homes are 'gaming' the system - the list goes on. But we rarely, if ever, hear positive stories of WHY some kids find themselves in temporary care. Maybe their birth parents are struggling a bit and might need some help - it doesn't make these parents evil, it makes them human.

Similarly, we rarely hear about the many amazing prospective parents out there who want to foster and/or adopt kids, to love them, to nurture them, to give them all the opportunities in life that we all deserve - and WHY they want to foster or adopt. We only ever seem to hear about all the challenges and the tragedies of the foster system...to the point that we're led to believe that there just aren't any alternate or innovative solutions. That once kids are in foster care, or placed for adoption, there's no hope - only heartache.

If one person can watch this film and discover that maybe they have the capacity to think outside the norm, and open their hearts and minds to a non-traditional type of family, then this is the ultimate success that we can achieve by sharing our story.

GODS OF RADIO

Somewhere in the early days of Canada’s musical evolution came a glorious moment in time — a magical decade that defined the “Canadian Sound”. It was an era that gave rise to a sound that is undeniably and unmistakably Canadian.

April Wine, Chiliwack, Harlequin, The Headpins, The Kings, Max Webster, Orphan, Prism, The Pumps, Queen City Kids, Streetheart, Toronto, Trooper; each band had its own distinct voice, but by combining elements of rock, punk, new wave, funk, synth, prog rock, and pop, they collectively crafted an instantly recognizable sound never quite heard before — or since.

So where are they now? What was it like to come of musical age in the 70’s, and how do they feel about paving the way for so many artists who have been able to grab the brass ring since?

The UK gave us the British Invasion and punk, and the USA gave us the California sound and rap. But no other country produced the one-of-a-kind sound that came out of Canada in the 70’s.

This isn’t just a Canadian Story, but it is a story about Canada. This is the story of a sound and a soundtrack of a generation.
